The Breakout Foundation is a volunteer-run 501c3 non-profit that gives direct and unrestricted funding to local leaders lifting their communities up across the US.
We believe in the power of everyday people to be catalysts for a more equitable future. Through yearly grant cycles, we work to close resource gaps and amplify the voices of our communities' most inspiring leaders.

Community Impact
Since 2017, we have focused on cutting the traditional red tape of the funding process with unrestricted and streamlined grant processes to community leaders nationwide. This has ranged from offline funding to years of Instagram challenges to better engage our community.
In 2022, The Breakout Foundation, in partnership with Gertie Chicago, launched the Chicago Community Fund.
In two years, we have awarded $165,000 dollars in funding to 22 local leaders and organizations being recognized for working toward social good and equitable impact in Chicago.
In 2023, with the support of the MacArthur Foundation, we hosted our first-ever CCF convening for our grantees. We expanded our fund into a fellowship through experiences, connections with city leaders, and the creation of original content to accelerate awareness around their impact.
